Heritage Ram Sale

History was made when four of the oldest Angora studs in the world, Martyrsford Angoras (established in 1871), Borden Angoras (established 1898), Thorn Park Angoras (established in 1876) and Wheatlands Angoras (established in 1849) came together at one venue for the first time and offered their top Angora rams. The setting was the beautiful farm homestead of Wheatlands in the Graaff-Reinet district. There was much excitement when one of the buyers from Lesotho arrived in a helicopter while the other buyers travelled from as far, Caledon and Sutherland to make use of this unique opportunity.  The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Samuel Matekane bought the most rams, and Max van der Wath and Emile Janse van Rensburg from Sutherland created another burst of excitement when they paid the best price of day, namely R80 000.00 for a ram bred by Sean Hobson from Matyrsford Angoras, Jansenville. There were 80 rams sold and the average price was R15 126 per ram with 100% sold. The House of Fibre, the largest mohair broker was the grateful auctioneering firm.
