The fleece of the Angora Goat is called mohair. It is a HAIR (hence Mo- Hair) unlike wool from sheep. Mohair is a luxury fibre and known as a Noble or the diamond fibre (because of its natural sheen or lustre).

Mohair has a natural sheen or lustre vs Wool yet is very similar to wool but with a much smoother surface and very thin smooth scales.

The Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) is a global certification standard that addresses animal, land and social welfare in the mohair industry. The standard was developed with Textile Exchange, a global nonprofit that creates leaders in the preferred fibre and materials industry. The RMS aims to provide the industry with the tools to recognise farmers’ best practices and traceability systems throughout the entire supply/value chain, from the farm to the finished product.
