Agricultural Agro - Processing Masterplan
The Sunrise Hotel in Bluewater Bay was the perfect venue for the annual Agro-Processing Forum that took place on the 3rd to the 5th of August in Port Elizabeth.
The AAMP is one of the seven priority plans identified by President Ramaphosa in his State of Nation Address as part of key economic sectors essential for the economic reconstruction and recovery during and post the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Agro-Processing Forum comprise of government (Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, and the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition) and the NAMC.
The Agro-Processing Forum’s responsibility is to implement the agriculture agro-processing masterplan (AAMP) after all relevant parties approved the masterplan two months ago.
The vision of the masterplan is to:
Be a globally competitive agricultural and agro-processing sector
Driving market oriented and inclusive production to develop rural economies
Ensure food-security
Create employment and entrepreneurship
Mohair had been identified as one of the key sectors.
The mohair, wool and cotton industries had an opportunity to do presentations on the status of their value chains.
On Friday, the 5th of August, the mohair industry arranged site visits for the Agro-Processing Forum members to mohair brokers, processors, and spinners. Each group was accompanied by a member of the MSA team and the feedback from the government delegates was hugely positive and complementary.
We would like to thank all industry stakeholders who made their facilities and time available to showcase our industry. We are grateful and proud of the brokers, processors, spinners, and dye houses that are in South Africa. The country and industry are better off because of it.
