The Animal Fibre Round Table

Mohair South Africa (MSA) and the Mohair Empowerment Trust (MET) participated in the virtual Animal Fibre Round Table hosted by Textile Exchange on Tuesday morning.

The purpose of the Animal Fibers Round Table is to support Textile Exchange’s sustainability vision with a focus on wool, mohair, alpaca, cashmere, and yak. The Animal Fibers Round Table will achieve this through gathering industry members to identify barriers to growth, identify impacts and opportunities, and take collective actions that result in meaningful impacts.

Marco Coetzee (MSA) had an opportunity to present on the most recent mohair industry statistics, the implementation of the RMS in South Africa and how that has affected the mohair market and feedback from our recent visits to Europe.

Beauty Mokgwamme had an opportunity to present the MET, what it offers and the current developments and growth within this space along side Lloyd James, MET Producer and Mohair Empowerment Partner.

Other industry stakeholders including Samil (Evert Vermeulen) and Stucken (Ruth Pringle) had an opportunity to present their perspective of the implementation of the RMS at buyer/processor level and Deon Saayman, Cape Wools gave a brief overview of the wool industry and an update on the Foot and Mouth disease.

It felt like a family reunion!

The round table was well attended by brands and retailers which had an opportunity to ask questions with great interest.
