SEAL international visits SA

Phil Seal and Daniel Dyson from Seal international were recently in South Africa visiting their mohair buyer, Alice Connacher from Seal and Connacher and to learn more about the South African mohair value chain.

Their trip also included a visit to the Mohair South Africa headquarters for an update on the mohair industry and they had an opportunity to visit a mohair farm for the first time. David and Kirsten Short welcomed the visitors onto their farm and showed them the basics of angora goat farming including the angora goats, shearing shed, the art of classing mohair and where the animals get dipped. Phil and Daniel were also taken into the veld to see our angora goats in their natural habitat. Dr Mackie Hobson, the mohair industry vet joined our international visitors to share some information on animal health and welfare practises.

Seal International is a UK based company which specialises in natural fibres including mohair. They process mohair in Bradford and manufacture worsted cloth for local and international clients.

It is always heart-warming to witness our SA farmers and international industry role players engage at the beginning of the mohair value chain.

Thank you, David, and Kirsten, for your time, hospitality and for sharing your knowledge with our global stakeholders.

SEAL team, thank you for visiting us and take care until we meet again in Bradford.
