As we adapt to the circumstances we have encountered over the past year and are presently negotiating, we can start to look forward to a better future finally with optimism and a yearning to re-engage in life and all the things we love.

A major challenge and loss throughout has been not being able to engage all our senses, particularly losing out on our ability to touch. We have learned to adapt to a new way of living by embracing technology and living in the virtual, but nothing technological can ever bring the warmth of touch, which is something we all need and crave.

Knitwear is therefore seeing significant growth in fashion with its unrivalled ability to stimulate multiple senses creatively and uniquely all in one garment. Colour, texture, comfort, warmth, softness and a conscious awareness of our importance yet fragility of our lives are all qualities we want to embrace as we re-emerge into a new reality. This fragility has highlighted further the need for focussing on sustainability, placing even greater importance on transparency and a need for quality over quantity. Mohair is the perfect fibre to embrace and reflect this direction. A fibre that is unrivalled for its visual and tactile impact whilst being sustainable from cradle to cradle.

As we re-engage with the world, we want to feel alive and RECHARGE our energy, REINVENT ourselves, REVEAL our true identities and RESTORE a balance to our environment. For 2022-23, mohair yarn will be a key player in knitwear trends highlighted and explored in these four main mohair insights and colour directions.
