Cape Women’s Agricultural Association Conference

The 93rd Annual Conference for the Cape Women’s Agricultural Association was held this month at Misty Valley Farms in Hartenbos and the theme was ‘Our Youth, our Future.’ Approximately 250 women from across the Cape Province attended, including Sanmarie Vermaak.

Mohair South Africa was one of the main sponsors of the event and Sanmarie Vermaak curated a beautiful stand showcasing mohair in all its forms: from greasy to tops, vibrant yarns and swatches of woven mohair. Billy, the Angora goat, also made an appearance at our stand!

The opening speaker was the Ambassador of the Ukraine, Liubov Abravitova.  She spoke about Ukraine’s youth and the challenges that the war has brought about, especially with regards to agriculture. 

Minister Ivan Meyer addressed the ladies and reminded them of the importance of women in agriculture.  With a beautiful view of the mountains as the backdrop, the guests were inspired by speakers Dr Theuns Eloff, Dr Adriaan Liebenberg and Sonja de Beer, a Karoo farm girl that ended up behind the cameras.

What a privilege it is to be part of this community of women from all over the Cape Land!
